Follow me, I know the way

Had another weekend full of late nights and too much drinking which probably doesn't surprise anybody at this point. I am still managing to do stuff during my days though and I've decided as long as my partying all night doesn't keep me from doing stuff during my days it is okay. (being tired and grouchy with my students is totally acceptable thought ;)

So Saturday was supposed to be a trip to Songtam - the army base - because the phone Talaithia had bought wasn't receiving any service and she wanted to exchange it. We got to the train station and purchased our tickets and then proceeded to track 5. (there was a 5 on our ticket it seemed like a logical place to go). 1:07 came and went and so did our train, just not on our track. Now in Korea if you get on a bus, on a train, go the movie theatre you have to sit in the seat they assign to you, although in the cases of trains there is also standing room and unless you purchase your tickets in advance there is a good change you are going to be delegated to standing in the aisle and getting bumped by the food cart - which has fine food selections such as dried squid jerky (oh don't worry you are all getting that for xmas), hard boiled eggs and nasty looking sausages.

Anyhow by my logical thinking *she types with dripping sarcasm* it was easiest just to jump on the next train and hope the train would go through our stop. Needless to say the train we jumped on did not go through our stop and instead wound its way through mountains and mountains and pretty soon we found out we were destined to Busan (which is a good four hours away). We jumped off at the next stop and ended up in a place called Gimcheon, which was a sleepy little town but pretty and a lot quieter than Daejeon. First thing we did was asked about a train ticket to our desired destination and we were told that the train didn't leave until 7pm and it was a two hour ride away, so we decided to forgo Songtam for the day and wander around Gimcheon. We figured we would wander around and grab some lunch in a nice, clean looking spot - which turned out to be a lot harder to find then we anticipated.

Guess where we ended up eating?

I don't even want to admit this...

We ate at McDonalds, and I haven't eaten in a McDonalds since first year university when I went to visit Lisa in Peterborough and even that was a rare visit. McDonalds is still as gross in Korea as it is in Canada.

Anyhow we wandered around a little more and then headed back to Daejeon and decided to try for Songtam on Sunday, which I am happy to say we did find all on our own. So my weekend was pretty full of travel and I have some other stories that I may or may not admit to at a later time, but for now I will stop and try and catch up on some of the sleep that I missed out on this weekend.
