Things that brighten my day
So we are intensives now...today was our fifth day of them, making us a quarter of the way through by the end of the day, yesterday we were 1/5 of the way there, and to those of you who are wondering, yes I am crossing each day off with a big X on the work calendar...just like a kid counting down the days until Christmas...coincidently intensives end the 25th of the month.
Anyhow they aren't that bad, the day feels a lot longer with straight teaching and after so many phonics classes in a row my ears start to ring around 5 o'clock or so, and when I see my grammar class walking in it signifies to me that the day is almost over. But without having breaks the time doesn't drag the way it sometimes tends to do.
I don't know whether the kids are acting up more or I am just being bitchier but today was 'mean teacher diana day.' I blame the kids, I think I was actually in a good mood. Anyhow Samuel, who was the kid I stuck in the corner way back when, had about five warnings today, and after I moved everyone's seats around and the little jerks still wouldn't listen I told Samuel to get out of my class. He said No. I guess it is fair to point out that he looked really scared and I think he would have behaved after that, but by that point it was a stand off between him and I. If I let him get away with it I would completely lose control over the kids. So I had to stick to my guns. I told him again to leave. He said No. I counted to three. He sat there. So I stormed out of class and shut the door and went and told David on him (wait a minute, who's the teacher and who's the student here?) All jokes aside, that is what we are supposed to do in such a situation because sometimes they just need to be yelled at in Korean and threatened to have their parents called, which usually results in the kid coming to school with a black eye (no jokes). So when David came in Samuel looked scared and I felt really bad for him and wanted to tell him not to worry, cause he is actually one of my favourites, but I had go through with it. Anyhow David is a pushover anyhow, so all in all, I should have the kids back under control tomorrow and all will be well.
Anyhow onto the original story behind my posting. I got to school today and Richard, whom you might remember from such blog postings as "I was so drunk off soju Richard had to walk me home," had brought me a rose, just because. It was such a nice way to start the day and makes me realize what good people I work with.
Okay so the original story was way shorter than the incidentals, but hey this is what I learned in university, a lot of 'fluff' can really fill up space!
