Fantastic!
So Friday I tripped and broke the strap of my favourite, and only, sandals. Devastated almost describes how well I handled the ordeal. These were the sandals I bought in Australia and if you know the ones I'm talking about then you know that they are the nicest sandals ever. Ever. And if you know me you also might know I hate shoe shopping with a passion.
Here in Korea they have little huts set up on nearly every other corner, they look like ice fishing huts, and in those huts you can get shoes repaired, keys cut, and who knows what else.
This morning I took my sandals to one of these huts and showed them to the little old man who was in the hut. He invited me in to sit down, took my shoes and began to work away. First he fixed the strap, then he tightened and made sure all the other strap sockets (strap sockets?!) were holding the straps in tightly. Then he polished the scuff marks off the fronts of my shoes. Then he took the other shoe and tightened those straps and polished it up as well.
My shoes are once again the best shoes ever and he charged me 1000 won (one dollar) for his services.
